HEALTH BENEFITS OF FRUITS



1. Kiwi Fruit provides an excellent source of vitamin C. It also offers a very good source of fiber. Kiwi contains decent amounts of vitamins A and E, phosphorus, magnesium, potassium and copper. Kiwi, like other vitamin C-rich foods, is especially important in promoting respiratory tract health. Studies have shown that kiwi and citrus are also effective against respiratory-related health problems including wheezing, shortness of breath and high coughing.  Kiwi is also rich in antioxidants and enzymes.







2. Pears provides a good source of fiber, vitamins B2, C, E, copper and potassium. They are an excellent source of pectin, which is a water soluble fiber. Pears are actually higher in pectin than apples. This makes them effective in helping to lower cholesterol levels and in toning the intestines. They are often recommended by health care practitioners as a hypoallergenic fruit that is high in fiber. They are less likely to produce an adverse response than other fruits. Pears are often recommended as a safe fruit to introduce to infants.




3. Plums provides a good source of vitamin C, vitamins B1, B2 and B6, fiber and phenolic compounds. Plums and prunes contain laxative effects, although prunes are much more effective than plums. Plums also offer a good source of neochlorogenic and cholorogencic acid. Those two related compounds are classified as phenols, which have well documented antioxidant and anticancer effects.




4. Papayas provide an excellent source of carotenes, flavonoids and vitamin C. They are also a very good source of vitamins A and E, folic acid, fiber and potassium. The fruit and other parts of the papaya tree contain papain.  Papain is an enzyme that helps to digest proteins. It is more concentrated in the fruit when it is unripe. Papayas have been valued for their high papain content and also for their protective benefits against cancer, heart disease and other diseases associated with free-radical damage. Papain is used as a digesting enzyme in dietary supplements and as an ingredient in many meat tenderizers. It is also used to treat several conditions such as indigestion, hay fever, chronic diarrhea, allergies, and sports injuries.

5. Strawberries provide an excellent source of vitamins c and K, fiber and flavonoids. They also offer a pantothenic acid.  Strawberries are also a good source of vitamin B6, foric acid and biotin.  The flavonoids contained in strawberries are responsible for most of their health benefits. Like other berries, strawberries' anthocyanidins are their most powerful flavonoids. Anthocyanidins are also responsible for the vibrant red color of strawberries.  Studies have shown that due to Strawberries' unique flavonoid content, they are effective in protecting against inflammation, heart disease and cancer.


6. Watermelon has an extremely high water content. It is about 92 percent water. It is low in calories and provides a very good source of vitamin C, beta-carotene and lycopene. Watermelon also provides a good source of vitamins B1 and B6, biotin, pantothenic acid, magnesium, fiber and potassium. Due to its high water content and lower calorie content, watermelon delivers more nutrients per calorie. It contains a large amount of some of the most important antioxidants in nature, including lycopene. Lycopene is the red carotenoid pigment that also gives tomatoes their red color. 




7. Lemons provide an excellent source of vitamin C. They are also a good source of vitamin B6, folic acid, potassium, limonene and flavonoids. Studies have been done on the phytochemical limonene which is extracted from lemons. Findings showed that limonene contains anticancer properties and is effective in dissolving gallstones. The highest concentration of limonene is located in the white spongy inner parts of the lemon.





8. Mangoes provide an excellent source of vitamin C, carotones, copper, B vitamins and fiber. They are also a good source of potassium, magnesium and vitamin E. Mangoes contain a high concentration of cartenoids, antioxidant nutrients and various phytochemicals. Along with all of the valuable nutrients, including flavonoids, magoes are effective as an anticancer food. They also contain several enzymes that help to improve digestion. One of those enzymes is similar to the papain found in papayas. Mangoes may also offer some protection against infections.


9. Oranges provide an excellent source of vitamin C and flavonoids. They also offer a good source of fiber, carotenes, pectin, potassium and B vitamins (including vitamins B1, B2, B6, folic acid and pantothenic acid). Oranges are especially beneficial for the immune system, lens of the eyes, adrenal glands, connective tissues, the reproductive organs and in promoting overall good health. Oranges contain a very important flavonoid called hesperidin. Studies have shown that hesperidin lowers cholesterol and high blood pressure. Studies have shown also that consuming oranges and orange juice protects against cancer and helps to fight viral infections. The pectin in oranges also contains properties that are similar to that of grapefruit pectin. Pectin is effective in lowering cholesterol levels. 


10. Banana helps to protect against cancer and other diseases. The benefits of banana increases mileage, reduces emissions and cleans the engine boost power. Among the banana varieties are Lakatan (yellowish and tastier), Latundan (white with thinner skin) and Saba varieties. Bananas have so much more vitamin A and C than apples. They are considered as a natural multivitamin. Bananas are very healthy because they can alleviate 14 medical conditions, including diarrhea, fatigue, heartburn, insomnia, nausea, menstrual problems, kidney problems, fluid retention and circulatory problems.
