Former five-division world champion Nonito "Filipino Flash" Donaire Jr. of the Philippines knocked down his opponent Anthonay Settoul of France last Saturday night, July 18, 2015 at Macau, China and primed himself up for another shot at the world super bantamweight title.
In the opening round, Donaire (35-3, 23 KOs) dropped the overmatched Settoul (20-4, 8 KOs) twice, beginning with a left uppercut that caused a delayed reaction knockdown. Donaire gave more punches in the second round to the diaphragm were followed with a bone-shaking right cross to the chin, causing Settoul drop down for the third time. Settoul bravely managed to beat the count but he was unsteady on his feet. His corner then threw in the towel to save him from getting more shots with 1min 41sec gone in the second. The Filipino Flash was then declared as the winner via Technical Knockout (TKO).
“We worked really hard for this fight and I did everything I needed to do,” said by Donaire afterwards.
"I wanted to set him up with the body shots and finish it from there," he added.
This victory of the Filipino Flash helped keep chances of challenging for another world championship in his next fight. He improved his record to 35 wins, 3 defeats (23 knockouts) and is now in line for another world title crack, probably for the WBA super bantamweight belt against British fighter Scott Quigg in Dubai later this year.
